Tekaal grew up in Paraasilan, Esmaar, with his parents, Rinaal and Evaad, and three younger siblings, Ahin, Linisaar, and Esten. In 11220, he attended a wizarding school called the Edeton Institute in Aldar, Esmaar. In 11229, he graduated and was soon hired as a teacher at Binaaralav, where he has worked since.

Tekaal was born without a sense of smell, a defect common among the males of his family. He paints, acts, sings, and plays several musical instruments. He has a familiar, a stratus-chaser called Semel.
