Spells Prepared (Save DCs):
As a specialist wizard, Cerise gets to prepare one extra abjuration per spell level. These and other prepared abjurations are in italics. Note that all abjurations get >+2 to save DC [Spell Foci] and (minimum) +2 to caster level [Magic Disruption; Master Specialist feature]. 0: Resistance, Light, Detect Magic, Read Magic, Message (15)
The Spellcraft DC to identify Cerise's spells is 4 higher than normal. Thematic spells (Light, Mage Armor, Blinding Color Surge, Prismatic Mist, Rainbow Pattern, and Prismatic Ray (SC 162)) are cast at +1 caster level. These spells are indicated with underlines. (Courtesy of feat Spell Thematics.) When casting Blinding Color Surge, +1d8 rounds are added to its duration. (Courtesy of DM concession resulting from Cerise's outfit.) The DC to dispel an abjuration Cerise casts is greater by her Initiate level. (Courtesy of class feature Unimpeachable Abjuration.) When she uses her bracelet of harmony, all spells are cast at +2 caster level and their DCs are also increased by +2. As long as Cerise has at least one spell prepared, she can make a DC 20 Concentration check to gain arcane focus as a full round action. Arcane focus lasts until Cerise expends it, becomes unconscious, or casts all available spells. She may expend her arcane focus to: 1) take 15 on any Concentration check; 2) cast her next abjuration at +1 caster level; 3) increase the save DC of her next abjuration by +1; 4) improve a check for her next abjuration to overcome spell resistance by +2; 5) use a detect spell as though one additional round were spent on it; 6) gain +4 on all Spellcraft checks within 1 minute of focus expenditure; or 7) gain +4 on the next Knowledge (arcana) check within 1 minute of expenditure. (Courtesy of feats Arcane Focus, Focused Specialist, and Magical Insight.) With a 3rd or higher level abjuration spell prepared, Cerise can force a Concentration check (DC 20+highest-level available abjuration) on a spellcasting character within 30 feet. Failure reduces CL and save DC for the ie spell by 2 (minimum 1). (Courtesy of feat Magic Disruption.) When Cerise casts an abjuration spell, she can gain unspecified energy resistance (1+spell level) x 5, which lasts for the duration of the abjuration or until any type of energy damage strikes. The resistance applies to the first applicable energy damage. (Courtesy of feat Energy Abjuration.) Cerise gets a +3 bonus to dispel checks. (Courtesy of Master Specialist Minor School Esoterica.) |
Cerise grew up in the city of Pameling with her parents, including the aforementioned mother, who is a spice seller, and her father, who runs a winery with wide distribution but poor brand recognition (most people have consumed the product, but few would recognize the name, however many times they've seen the label). The Arkhes are a large family: Cerise has two older sisters, Lilac (34) and Amber (33), and four younger sisters, Jade (30), Lavender (29), Olive (27), and Magalynette (23). (Magalynette was adopted from a couple up the street who died in the outbreak of the dreaded Lurgy.) All of them have husbands except for Lavender, who has a wife; Lilac, Amber, Olive, and Magalynette have all had various numbers of children.
Cerise used to have a husband, and used to have another husband, but presently does not have either. She likes boys very, very much, and dated as though it were an international sport from the age of twelve on up. She married the first husband, Meun Zephyrus, when she was 19, after a whirlwind and utterly charming courtship that was just shy of six months old at the time. At this time she began following him around on his archaeological adventures, chipping in towards the work with magic she'd picked up from one of her prior boyfriends and continued studying on her own, and ensuring that Meun did not get cold at night or, sometimes, midday. Predictably, Cerise became pregnant by Meun when she was 20, but a late-term miscarriage, ill-handled by the healer, left her childless and unable to subsequently conceive. They rode out this misfortune together only for Meun to be slain by a dungeon resident muttering something about imperialism when Cerise was 21. Cerise escaped with her life, but was very chilled by the incident.
Wary of continuing the adventuring life, Cerise applied to graduate school in abjuration and chromatic arcana, where she could stay a little closer to home (Pameling being only thirty miles from Icartha). She also took a part-time job in the university library to cover expenses. Safely ensconced there, she gradually reaffirmed her healthy interest in boys, boys, boys, and they generally confirmed that she remained interesting to them. One in particular, a fellow student Bartel Iris, found her particularly interesting; they married when Cerise was 26. A very ugly decline of the relationship began not long after. When Cerise was 29, they divorced. Bartel had by this time made his way from graduate study to the department faculty, and although he and Cerise still occasionally succumb to ill-advised nostalgia-fueled traipsings through their bedrooms, she finds it difficult to be around him for extended periods. Hastily concluding her degree at the age of 30, Cerise applied for the "gofer" program to get an excuse to be away from campus most of the time without losing her coveted library access or having to move out of her nice, inexpensive university housing. The adventures remind her of her time with Meun, which, while bittersweet, is preferable to being reminded of Bartel.
